Not long ago, fragrance trends moved slowly. A new style launched by a major designer house would filter down through the market over several years. Today a single viral video can send a niche perfume, or a whole note like pistachio or cherry, into sell-out within weeks. Brands need a faster way to read the market.
The new trend signals
- Search behaviour. What people type into search engines and store search boxes: “vanilla perfume long lasting”, “oud for summer”.
- Social conversation. Mentions, reviews and videos about specific perfumes, notes and moods.
- Retail data. Which profiles are reordered, and which stall after the first purchase.
- Conversational data. The words customers use when talking to a fragrance assistant, which are often more honest than search keywords.
Where AI comes in
No team can read millions of posts and queries by hand. AI models cluster this noise into themes, track how quickly a theme is growing, and connect it to concrete notes and accords. A spike in phrases like “clean girl” or “skin scent”, for example, translates into demand for soft musks, ambrettes and transparent woods.
Trend or fad?
Not every spike deserves a product. Useful questions before acting:
- Is it growing across several regions and platforms, or one?
- Does it fit your brand and your customers?
- Can you launch in weeks with a small run, test response, then scale?
Profiles worth watching
Across the wider market, several directions keep coming up: modern ouds designed to be wearable in heat, gourmand-amber blends, fresh aquatic profiles for Indian summers, and soft “skin scent” musks. Treat these as starting points for research rather than guarantees, and test them with your own customers.
