dsm-firmenich at Beautyworld Middle East: Florals for the Gulf

Beautyworld Middle East in Dubai (6–8 October 2026) is the region's biggest beauty trade fair, and one of the world's largest fragrance suppliers used it to make a clear statement: florals are central to the next wave of Middle Eastern luxury perfume. Perfumer & Flavorist reported the details (28 September 2026).

'Flowers Are Watching Us'

dsm-firmenich's stand hosted an immersive exhibition called Flowers Are Watching Us. At its centre was a collection of fragrances made only for the show. Rather than copying a rose or a jasmine, each composition explored a theme (strength, softness, contrast, sensuality) through a contemporary Middle Eastern lens. The bottles were made by Identiscents.

The perfumers behind the collection included Honorine Blanc, Nathalie Lorson, Hamid Merati-Kashani, Ilias Ermenidis, Carmita Magalhaes, Abdulkader Fattouh and Florian Pellegrin.

The ingredient story: natural lily of the valley

The key ingredient was Muguet Firgood, a natural lily of the valley extract first introduced in 2021 through a partnership between Firmenich and vertical-farming company Jungle. Lily of the valley gives almost no usable natural oil by traditional methods, so perfumers have long recreated it with synthetics. Firgood extraction uses electromagnetic waves instead of solvents to capture the flower's water-borne scent molecules, producing a solvent-free, 100% natural extract that is now made at industrial scale.

The showcase also pointed to classic floral molecules such as Hedione (the airy, jasmine-like note behind many modern florals) and Iralia (an iris-violet ionone material), reminders that great florals blend naturals and well-chosen aroma chemicals.

Talks on place and trends

Sessions included 'Scent of Place', led by Zalfa Al Achkar, on distinctive regional ingredients, and a trends talk featuring Catherine Dolisi.

What it means for GCC and Indian brands

  • Florals are a luxury signal in the Gulf. Beyond oud and amber, bright white florals and rose are being positioned as premium for the region.
  • Ingredient stories sell. Naming a hero material such as natural muguet, Taif rose or Kannauj jasmine gives a brand authority.
  • Blend naturals with molecules. Hedione and ionones remain the backbone of modern floral accords and are easy to source.
